This colloquium, organised by the Skenè Research Centre, is devoted to the exploration of the works of polymath Leon Modena (Venice, 1571-1648), a prolific and captivating intellectual who wrote in many genres including plays, poems, treatises, and translations and worked in several fields, from literature to music, from religion to philosophy. This online event will bring together scholars who have looked at Leon Modena from several critical angles. It will feature, in particular, the book launch of Micha Lazarus’ first critical edition and English translation of Leon Modena’s Kinah Shemor (Skenè. Texts and Studies) and a roundtable discussing issue 9.1 of Skenè. Journal of Theatre and Drama Studies, guest-edited by Chanita Goodblatt, “Performing the Book of Esther in Early Modern Europe” (many essays of which address and investigate Leon Modena’s L’Ester, tragedia tratta dalla Sacra Scrittura).
